Overall #1 pick Cam Newton will get his first professional start tonight in the pre-season, taking over for the ineffective Jimmy Clausen. And while the team is saying all the right things about this being a simple rotation, said rotation was not mentioned until Clausen’s poor outing last week and Cam’s relatively strong appearance.
It’s hard to believe that Newton wouldn’t be given the starting job over a second year player the team DOES NOT believe is its future QB if they think Cam can handle the playbook. So, tonight’s performance could set up a chance for Newton to enter the season as the teams #1.
For collectors and fans, Friday night’s Panthers Vs. Dolphins match up is actually a game worth watching. At least for the first half. If he looks good expect card prices to jump for a player already selling at multiples versus the rest of the 2011 Draft Class.
